Wine at Five

Bottles and Bottles of Wine and all my life to drink them

What is The Weekly Re’Wine’der?

The Weekly Re’Wine’der is a tacit editorial about wine stuff that I and my colleagues at Wine at Five find either interesting, annoying, helpful or just plain fun and that we think our customers and our readers would like to read. It is sometimes political and I make no apology for that – in the State of New York there are so many ridiculous laws pertaining to the sale of wine that very often politics takes center stage. It is sometimes raunchy but then, according to the law you have to be over 21 to buy, drink or look at alcohol so raunchy isn’t really relevant. And it is always tongue-in-cheek (AKA glass in mouth) because as pedantic as some wine critics are, at the end of the day you either like a wine or don’t. Simple as that.

Wine at Five is the HQ of this blog. It is a boutique wine store in Rye, New York where we do out best to introduce people to wines that are not your every day Yellow Tail slush bucket or Gallo profit margin. We source small production wines from around the globe, preferably family owned and family made. We seek out wines that have been pressed by feet, vineyards that are plowed by horses and wine-makers who talk to their grapes. There is so much commercial grape juice sold in wine stores simply because the store owners couldn’t be bothered to do a little work that Wine at Five distinguishes itself by going beyond the barrel.

Each week I write a column entitled ‘The Weekly Re’Wine’der and e-mail it to our customers. It’s a diary of what we have been tasting in the store, what news we have received and what plans we have for the coming weeks. It’s where you can read, first hand, what we like and what might be of interest to others. Feel free to leave comments, they are the backbone of this blog.
