Cellar Specials
Occasionally we are offered wine from a winery or a cellar that we could not hope to obtain through regular channels. Or indeed, those regular channels offer us an allocation of a wine that we would not normally be offered. For whatever reasons occasionally we do find ourselves in possession of Cellar Gems. As you might suspect its first come first served and since my colleagues and I are pretty much always here we are usually first! But once we have bought our quota we put the rest out for our customers.
On this page I shall update our Cellar Specials each and every time we receive something that is worthy and rare. I shall also give you advance warning of a wine that we have been offered for delivery in one month, two or even three months hence. Very often, by taking advantage of capturing these gems early we get a price break – not often, but if you understand the way the three tier distribution system works in New York (one of those obscenely redundant laws that artificially keep the prices high by allowing Distributors to take monopolistic control over wines and spirits), you can appreciate that sometimes an importer needs to know before he commits how much wine he might sell – hence a discount if you get in early.
By the nature of the types of wine we seek out, quantities are very limited and whilst we may set quantity limits on certain items you still have to act very fast, so keep pinging this blog.
