Weekly Re’Wine’der – Sept 2, 2010
We Have Lift-Off
Its only been 4 1/2 years since we opened Wine at Five so the fact that my web site has only just been launched isn’t too bad! It’s still a work in progress, and I suspect that it always will be, but having read and digested WordPress for Dummies I just felt that this last weekend I really should give it one final attempt. Of course in so doing I also obliterated the existing wineatfive site but mercifully the young lady who helped me first set up a web hosting page came to my rescue and in less than 10 minutes the blog page and everything else was just the way I wanted it! They say that deciphering the labels of German wines is complicated – they have no idea how complicated writing and understanding html code is! Give me a bottle of German wine any day.
So, now that you have found my site have a look around. Eventually it will have a ‘filing system’ that is a little more logical – the sidebars will be able to take you quickly to where you want to go, and read what you want to read. I have an enormous amount of archival information that will eventually be put in, but for the moment its baby steps, a few every day!
Do check out the Cellar Specials section – I recently posted more information on the Williams Selyem offering, and please read the article about Riding For A Cause, then click on the link and donate huge.
For those members of the Four Bottle Wine Club, you can reread the prior three months of tasting notes and recipes by clicking on the Four Bottle Wine Club in the menu line or going to to the Four Bottle Wine Club section in the Archives category. Form there each prior month will link to a .pdf file of the color brochure. And if you are not a member then this is a great opportunity for you to read what its all about and become one!
Along that note, the wines for the 4 Bottle Wine Club, September issue, are now in and the brochure has been written and printed. If you are in Rye this weekend, stop in at the store and you can taste each of the wines at the bar. As I promised a few weeks ago, we intend to open each of the Four Bottle wines on the first Saturday of the month – this will give members a chance to see what they are in for, and a chance for our customers to see what they are missing! This month’s selections all come for the Valle D’Aosta in north western Italy.
It is still the last few days of the Summer Vacation here in Rye and parking spaces are ten-a-penny as everyone has moved out for that last moment of idle nothingness. Many of them will probably be evacuating about now, or planning to do so soon – don’t forget the wines! We will be closed this coming Monday but next week starts the beginning of the crazy season and we have spent the summer discovering new wines to bring in once everyone is back and thirsty. For those of you who can’t wait and who need a ‘Party Case’ for this weekend reserve a mixed case of our newest gem:
The Messenger – a brand new range of wines from Rob McDonald, owner of Girls in the Vineyard winery and pretty much anything that tastes good out of Australia including D’Arenberg, John Duval, Yarra Yering, Leeuwin Estate – you name it this guy owns it. The Messenger are wines sourced from grapes all over California and made in his wineries dotted along the Silverado Trail. We tasted them and I was very surprised, and delighted, at how good they were, across the board.
3 Bottles The Messenger Chardonnay
3 Bottles The Messenger Sauvignon Blanc
3 Bottles The Messenger Merlot
3 Bottles The Messenger Red Wine (a blend of Grenache, Merlot, Barbera and Sangiovese)
That’s a full case, 2 red, 2 white, perfect for the casual Labor Day Weekend. Retail price is $180 but this weekend, while stocks last, your price is $144 per case – give me a call, or send me an e-mail.
So have a wonderful Labor Day Weekend – stay safe and away from the beaches, cuddle up with your favorite red and celebrate the day with a cool refreshing bottle of champagne!
