Thursday Night Country Club Tasting

Yesterday evening we hosted a private, members only wine tasting at one of the country clubs in Rye. It was raining, and it was the second night of “political call free ” time with spouses and rug rats, but for whatever reason, these particular club members decided to stay at home. Embarrassingly I had organized for nine Distributors to attend the event and had asked each of them to offer up 10-12 bottles of their favorite seasonal wines, for members to taste. I also asked them to leave family and friends so they could work the room and pour. And as we do with all the country club and golf club tasting events, we offered the wines at unprecedented prices – between $3-$5 over cost. And now comes the benefit. I don’t ask for favors that I can’t earn, and I don’t ask others to make sacrifices that I wouldn’t also commit to. So when I asked nine distributors to dig into their sample budgets, and take time away from their families, and work only for the possibility that members would rush to buy wines at prices they cannot obtain anywhere else, and the club in question can only muster a handful of members, I feel embarrassed and guilty that I made that request.

And so this time I am going to make the price list available publicly. But there are a few rules! To obtain the prices from our distributors we need to order in bulk and at one time. Therefore there is a minimum order of 6 bottles of any single wine. To order, I need to receive an e-mail from you addressed to wineatfive@verizon.net and your order must include your credit card number and expiry, the table number and name of the wine that you would like to purchase and the quantity of each wine you wish to buy, and the name as it appears on your credit card. Finally, the orders must be received by 10:00am on Monday, November 8. Orders received after that time cannot be processed and the link will be taken down on Monday morning.

There are around 100 wines available, some absolutely terrific champagnes, and I will be the first to admit, this was some of the most exciting wines I have ever put up at a ‘tasting’. Unfortunately you can’t taste the wines in virtual reality but if you have any questions about any of the wines you can either call us at 914-921-5950 or e-mail me at the address listed above.
